Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts (Pre-K Counts) provides quality pre-kindergarten programs to eligible 3 and 4-year-olds in Pennsylvania and gives children a chance to learn, become excited about school and be better students.

Pre-K Counts is designed for children who:

  • Are between age 3 and until the entry age for kindergarten;

  • Are at risk of school failure and living in families earning up to 300 percent of the federal income poverty level (such as a family of four earning $96,450) who may also be English language learners or have special needs.

By enrolling your eligible child in quality pre-kindergarten, your child has a better chance of being ready for kindergarten and grade school. This strong early start in pre-kindergarten means they have a better chance of doing well in school, going on to college or career training, and getting a good job. All of this can start by enrolling your child in a Pre-K Counts classroom!

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A PRE-K COUNTS CLASSROOM?

BHASD PA Pre-K Counts classrooms will:

  • Employ teachers with the education and expertise to teach young children

  • Allow children to participate in indoor and outdoor play daily

  • Use a research-based curriculum that will help your child grow, academically and socially

  • Regularly review your child’s progress and choose teaching and learning activities that are best for your child

  • Help you and your child adjust to pre-kindergarten and smoothly move on to kindergarten

  • Provide nutritious lunch and snacks daily

  • Offer a small class size (16 students per one teacher and one aide) so that your child can have plenty of one-on-one time with the teachers.

By enrolling your eligible child in Pre-K Counts, you can give your child a great start to a bright future.

Fast Facts:

  • Our Pre-K program runs in alignment with our district calendar.  *See "Calendar 25-26" linked at the top of this page.

  • Hours- 8:45AM-2:15PM.

  • Breakfast and lunch are served daily at no cost to families.

  • Transportation is not provided.

  • The program is FREE for all eligible students.

  • Acceptance into the program is based on financial eligibility.  For example, this year a family of 4 would need to show documentation that they earned less than $96,450 in order to be eligible to attend our program.  There is not an option to pay tuition or a fee if a family earns more than the amount listed by number of family members residing in the household.

  • If your child is accepted as a 3-year-old, they are automatically enrolled in the program for the second year.  You would not need to apply again or provide proof of financial eligibility.  This allows parents an opportunity to earn more (if they choose) since they may have more flexibility in their schedule with their child attending the Pre-K program.

2024-2025 School Year: All Pre-K Slots are currently filled. Please fill out the application and submit the enrollment documents to see if you are eligible to join our wait list!

Looking to apply for the 2025-2026 School Year? Open Enrollment will occur February 14th-March 14th. Families will be notified of acceptance or status the week of March 17th.
