Second graders in Mrs. Lewis's class created bird feeders designed for a specific kind of bird during their study of animals and habitats. Also in math they were working on telling time and showed off their knowledge during their time stations. 🐦⬛⏰

It was great to see all the children having fun at Friday's Open Gym!

Mrs. Appleman's students are practicing their recorders, and Mrs. Rissmiller's students are practicing their rhythms!

Congratulations to this week's Bucket Fillers! Keep up the amazing work! 🪣 🎉

🎣 Trout in the Classroom Update! 🐟
Exciting news—some of the trout have started to hatch! At this stage, they’re known as sac fry or alevin. If you look closely, you’ll notice their yolk sacs still attached—these will provide all the nourishment they need as they grow over the next few weeks. 🌱
While it’s amazing to watch this process unfold, not all survive—just as it happens in nature. The beaker shows the ones that didn’t make it, reminding us of the delicate balance in their journey.
Stay tuned for more updates as these little trout continue to grow! 🐟💧

🌬️ 2-Hour Delay Alert 🌬️
Due to the extreme cold weather forecasted, Brandywine Heights Area School District will be operating on a 2-hour delay for Tuesday, January 21st, and Wednesday, January 22nd.
The delay allows:
🚌 Extra time to warm up the buses.
☀️ Daylight for drivers to better navigate frozen runoff areas.
❄️ A bit of warming from the sun to keep students safer.
Stay warm, Brandywine! ❄️🧣 #BHASD #WinterWeatherUpdate #StaySafe

Help spread the word: BHASD Kindergarten Registration is NOW OPEN!
Please see below for Next Steps and Save the Dates:
Next Step: Once you have completed the online registration requirements, please contact the Elementary School Main Office at 610.682.5171 to schedule your child’s Kindergarten Screening session.
Kindergarten Screening sessions will be scheduled the weeks of February 17th and February 24th. Morning, afternoon, and evening sessions will be available. Mrs. Acosta, Bullet Academy Coordinator, will conduct the screening sessions. A screening/readiness test will be administered to help our staff ensure heterogeneous classroom groupings and provide a brief snapshot of the student’s abilities. We realize that a variety of factors influence the results of this screening (new environment, new faces, etc.) so it is used as a general guide, not as eligibility criteria to create ability groupings. Following the screening, Mrs. Acosta will provide students with a ‘Kindergarten Readiness Kit’ and invite families to join Kindergarten Readiness Groups that will help your child transition to their new school and bolster their academic and social skills prior to starting kindergarten. These groups will begin in March and will continue throughout the summer!
Save the Date: On Thursday, April 24th, from 6:00-7:00, we will host a Kindergarten Orientation/Camp Kindergarten experience for incoming kindergarten families. Parents will meet with Ms. Kelly to learn more about our Kindergarten program and our Elementary School/District. While the parents join Ms. Kelly for an informational session, incoming kindergarteners will participate in Camp Kindergarten with teachers! They will meet some of our teachers, participate in a variety of fun activities/stations, and see different areas of their new school! More information will be shared closer to the event. We look forward to meeting you and beginning a long-term partnership in your child’s education!

🐟 Exciting news from Brandywine Heights Area School District! Last week, students in Mrs. Levengood’s, Mr. Donato’s, and Ms. Sheeler’s classes welcomed their new aquatic classmates—trout eggs! As part of the Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom program, our students will raise these trout from eggs to fingerlings, learning about coldwater conservation and aquatic ecosystems along the way. Later this year, we’ll release our trout, giving them a new home and contributing to local conservation efforts.
Follow along for updates on our fin-tastic journey! 🐠📚
