🐟 Big news from the tank! Our trout have officially entered the alevin stage! 🎉 Right now, they’re still hanging out with their yolk sacs, which provide all the nutrients they need to grow. They’re not swimming just yet, but they’re busy developing into strong, healthy fry. For now, we’re keeping the water clean, oxygenated, and disturbance-free to give them the best start. Our Life Skills students have been practicing making phone calls, and today they put their skills to the test—ordering takeout from Jak’s! 🎉 Each student called the restaurant, placed their own order, and even handled payment and pickup. A hands-on lesson that ended with a delicious reward! 👏

The School District will be operating under a two hour delay. Due to the temperatures right around freezing, the road conditions, particularly in the higher elevations, have black ice. A delay will allow for roads to be treated and temperatures to warm.

🎣 Trout in the Classroom Update! 🐟
Some of the trout have started to hatch! At this stage, they’re known as sac fry or alevin. If you look closely, you’ll notice their yolk sacs still attached—these will provide all the nourishment they need as they grow over the next few weeks. 🌱
While it’s amazing to watch this process unfold, not all survive—just as it happens in nature. The beaker shows the ones that didn’t make it, reminding us of the delicate balance in their journey.

Due to the extreme cold weather forecasted, Brandywine Heights Area School District will be operating on a 2-hour delay for Tuesday, January 21st, and Wednesday, January 22nd.
The delay allows:
🚌 Extra time to warm up the buses.
☀️ Daylight for drivers to better navigate frozen runoff areas.
❄️ A bit of warming from the sun to keep students safer.

🐟 Exciting news from Brandywine Heights Area School District! Last week, students in Mrs. Levengood’s, Mr. Donato’s, and Ms. Sheeler’s classes welcomed their new aquatic classmates—trout eggs! As part of the Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom program, our students will raise these trout from eggs to fingerlings, learning about coldwater conservation and aquatic ecosystems along the way. Later this year, we’ll release our trout, giving them a new home and contributing to local conservation efforts.

The Brandywine Heights Area School District will be operating under a two hour delay to allow additional time to ensure there are safe travel conditions for the opening of school. The Early Dismissal/Professional Development previously scheduled will be canceled and the students will remain in school for the full day.
🎉 We’re excited to announce that our school has received a $2,000 PARSS grant! 🎉 This funding will help support FFA and FBLA field trips, giving our students amazing opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom. At the Pennsylvania FFA Mid-Winter Convention, 28 of our students proudly received their iconic blue jackets. 💙 These jackets symbolize hard work, dedication, and a bright future in agriculture—and they were made possible thanks to the generosity of our amazing community sponsors!
But that’s not all! 🎉 We’re also proud to announce that Brandywine Heights FFA was 1 of just 6 chapters across the state to receive its official charter during the convention. While some of our students couldn’t attend due to the weather, we’ll make sure to recognize their incredible achievements at a later date.

They had an incredible weekend, achieving:
✅ Highest robot score in school history
✅ 7th out of 28 teams, just 10 points from the top 5
✅ Consistent robot performance with 200 points in all 3 rounds
And the best part? They showed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and manners, representing Brandywine Heights with pride! 💪✨
