What is a Profile of a Learner?

A learner profile is an outline of what we a district expects of learners during their time in K-12 education.

This profile is consolidated into a clear visualization of priority goals for teaching and learning within the district.  This is shared with teachers, students, staff, parents, and community members as a focus and direction for the district.

The Brandywine Heights Profile of a Learner is broken into three main categories:

  • KNOWLEDGE:  The curriculum we traditionally teach every year

  • INTERESTS:  Where student interests connect to the school day (i.e. - electives, extra curriculars, community service, internships, etc.)

  • SKILLS:  Cognitive, Personal, & Interpersonal competencies

Building the Profile of a Learner

Brandywine Heights Area School District has always had strong 'Knowledge' that is instilled in the curriculum taught across all courses PK-12 as well as ample opportunities to engage students 'Interests' with extra curricular activities, electives, internships, and so much more. As part of the comprehensive planning process in 2022. We collected feedback from staff, students, and stakeholders across the community on what 'Skills' were essential for students to have prior to graduating high school to be successful in their future endeavors. Through that exercise, we identified twelve skills which are embedded in our daily instruction and are identified as success traits throughout each Brandywine Heights building.

These skills are broken into three main categories of Cognitive, Interpersonal and Personal skills and include the skills listed below:

Interpersonal

  • Collaboration

  • Communication

  • Empathy

  • Respect

Cognitive

  • Creativity

  • Critical Thinking

  • Problem Solving

  • Hopefulness

Personal

  • Perserverance

  • Responsibility

  • Adaptability

  • Initiative
